One Response to “Books”

I am a New Zealand author promoting my two new novels for New Zealand Book Month. I am writing to you in the hope that you will review the works for Salient.
The first, “Write My Face,” is an action, adventure, romance set in the Rotorua/ Murupara areas and gives the reader a good idea of life in a small town, our thermal wonderland, native flora and fauna and raging rivers. The book has a very dramatic scene where two women have to tramp for four hours through a storm and rugged bush to save an injured hunter. This scene is based on a true event that happened in our town some years ago. The book has a real, “girls can do anything,” feel to it but has been as popular with guys as with girls.

My second novel is called, “When Romeo Kissed Mercutio,” and is a fresh take on the Shakespearean love story. My story is about a same-love relationship between two eighteen year old boys and follows a year in their lives as they meet, fall in love, come out to their families and friends and then have to deal with being beaten up in a local park on their way home late at night. The book is sensitively written and I have had great feed-back from my readers.

The Victoria University Library bought two copies of “Write My Face,” but refused to buy, “When Romeo Kissed Mercutio,” due to its gay theme. This saddened and angered me as I thought Victoria University was an open-minded learning institution. Sadly, I have been proved wrong.

I hope you will consider reviewing my books and support a NZ writer for NZ Book Month.
    Many thanks
    Kathy
