ASPA Awards 2009

Posted by Jackson Wood & filed under Blog.

Tonight, an event which all student journalists dream of being invited to: The Aotearoa Student Press Association awards, is going off. Student journos from all over the country have descended on Wellington to celebrate the best and brightest in the field.

15 student mags will be represented tonight with 18 Snowflakes, or ASPAs, being awarded.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the generous sponsorship from Fairfax New Zealand. They’ve been sponsoring this event for three years now and every year it just keeps getting better.

I will be live tweeting from the event, you can follow the tweets here.

Good luck to all nominees and magazines.

Keep checking the Twitter feed for updates.

Salient winning best publication shows that too much funding was put into place by the Student Trust. A small university like Victoria can not and will not afford an award winning publication. Fund for mediocrity. That’s what we need to be about.

Congratulations to everyone, I hope Salient publishes a complete list of who was nominated for what. It always takes a few years to bounce back after a real shocker (no disrespect to all but one of the people involved in recent years).
