Coming up in September is women’s week, from Monday, 11 September to Friday, 15 September.

On the morning of Monday the 11th there is caucusing for Maori women, facilitated by Veronica Tawahi, President of Te Mana Akonga, the national Maori Students’ Association. This is a chance for Maori women to raise their issues and concerns, and have them heard by VUWSA.

In the afternoon on Monday, from 2 pm to 4 pm in the common room on level two of the Student Union building, is the Parent and Child afternoon tea. This is open to both men and women and of course their children. Coffee, tea, and muffins are provided.

On Tuesday the 12th there is caucusing for postgraduate students, from 11 am to 12pm. This is open to women only and facilitated by Amy Mitchell, the three year Vice-President of the post-graduate students’ association.

On Wednesday the 13th from 10am- 12pm there is caucusing for queer women. This will be a chance for queer women to discuss any issues they wish to bring up amongst themselves, and create directives for the WRO. This session is facilitated by Maddy Drew: UniQ president 2004, VUWSA Welfare Officer 2005, VUWSA Welfare Vice President 2006. This is an opportunity for queer women to ask Maddy questions about her recent Human Rights Claim.

In the evening is the erotic fiction award ceremony from 7.30pm in the memorial theatre. Prizes will be awarded to the winners (1st Place: $300 DVICE Vouchers, 2nd Place: $200 D-VICE Vouchers, People’s Choice Award: Pacific Pearl Vibrator). After the awards ceremony DVICE will be hosting a sex toy party for women only, a great chance for our winners to spend their vouchers!

On Thursday the 14th there is the Thursdays in black concert: Singing out against rape and violence, featuring Anika Moa and The Band Called Dave. This is held at the Southern Cross on Abel Smith Street, doors open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 for students and $18 for the public. They can be purchased at Cosmic Corner and at VUWSA.
