That is a load of bullshit.

Prozac and its generic substitutes are low dose slow release. It takes nearly three weeks to have any effect, and new studies have shown that this primitive form of tampering with brain chemistry may not work at all.

Maybe this was more of a stigma issue that a psychotropic one. Having been on the stuff myself at one point, it is always embarrassing to admit that you need to be on an anti depressant. I believe, and I am sure many psychologists would support this, when used in combination with exercise, healthy eating and counselling they seemed to help me out. And I was thinking about killing myself. Now I am happy, somewhat healthy and the editor of this fine magazine.

If you are on prozac/feel like you want to kill yourself I suggest you talk to your doctor, counsellor, friends, family, anyone who will listen till you get the help support and love you need.

Cheer up emo kid. It's not so bad. You could be Mark Lundy.

Prozac caused 2 of my friends to kill themselves!... One was 17 and the other was 15, before taking prozac they didn't want to die and within 2 days of taking Prozac, they had killed themselves!

IF YOU'RE ON THIS STUFF, GET OFF IT NOW BEFORE YOU BECOME THE NEXT VICTIM!!!

As a law student, I am constantly being taught to question things I am told. Seek the evidence, question its application to what you are told.
I am deeply concerned at the almost total lack of independent information and accessibility of research on this 'medication' and at the lack of scrutiny of doctors whose relationships with drug companies create obvious conflicts of interest.
But at least we can take steps to protect ourselves. My advice to anyone suffering from depression?
Sometimes life sucks. We have all been there and it is very normal to go through a rough patch, but you should consider its causes.
Why are you feeling this way? Are you considering drugs because it is easier to take them than face up to your problems?
If you do feel drugs are the right option, question your doctor about the side effects and precisely why they feel this is the best drug for you.

Aropax wrecked my life and very nearly ended it.
I should never have been put on it but surprise, surprise I was given free samples of it that drug companies had pushed onto my doctor. While on the medication I saw my doctor and said I was feeling really down and had begun harming myself and he doubled my dousage which just saw me end up in psychiatrict emergency!!!

Crazily enough it took a long time before I realised that the drug was the problem. I feel better than ever now as I have cut down to 5mg but the withdrawal symptoms are really really hard to deal with. I was naieve and thought 'hell they can't be that bad I've been through alot of crap I can handle it" but the last 5 mg is really hard to get rid of.

I read "Dying for a cure" which is a fantastic and very informative book written by a lady in Australia. She was diagnosed with post natal depression and was put on anti depressants but she got worse. Very interesting.

Be very very careful before taking these drugs!!!!!! They aren't a miracle cure! My advice to anyone suffering from depression is to first try therapy and look into alternative methods. St Johns Wort has been researched to prove just as effective as anti depressants without the side effects. There are heaps more too. And check out paxilprogress.com too. It is a forum for people trying to come out this medication (Paxil is the American brand name for Aropax)
