As far as the age-of-consent, the AoC only takes away the proper protection of children as they will ‘choose’ to be sexually expressive no matter what we say or do via the law. By keeping them from comprehensive sex education and not allowing them to be informed and empowered to make ‘decisions’ are children vulnerable not only to adults, but to other children (no matter the age). The AoC is irrelevant to the greater scheme of things, and because of this I really feel that this arbitrary line that criminalizes so many adults and youths and ostracizes them from society needs to be done away with. We, especially in the U.S. has played too much politics and games with child sexuality and in condemning paedophilia that it’s now a circus and complex situation that pervades human and civil rights of both youths and adults.

By the way the Age of Consent was first established in Victorian Society around the 17th century to keep the fathers possession over their daughters virginity in tact. Now it has became a disgrace that only feeds society into nothing but hate and fear, fear of their children being sexual and hate of those who are possibly sexual with them. Child sex was regarded as acceptable in many parts of Europe as well as the World- generally it was the Christianization of different tribes and nations that led to the discouragement of extra-marital sex, but the marriage age was still young as is in some countries or cultures today.

Marriage at a young age doesn’t automatically mean consummation at that age, many societies wait till the age of puberty for that to be established. Anyway prearranged marriages has actually been proven successful with a lot less divorce rate and abuse then in the Western way of marriage. In western society we learn how to hate each other in relationships, in eastern societies they learn how to love each other, which has a better psychological and healthier state- consider that the children as they become sexually interested in others will have a one-partner status to practice with- here our children aren’t even allowed legally to be sexually expressive- so they sneak around behind barns flinging it with anybody willing to put out (paedophiles, younger kids down the street, the class bully, their best friend), and we think that somehow it’s better and healthier to have the age-of-consent while teaching abstinence only education- let’s get real.
