SJS ‘deck of doom’

The deck of the Student Job Search building has been cordoned off and declared unsafe, after it was discovered to have been built without consent.

The deck – added onto the Mount Street building late last year – was not only built without consent, but not completed before it opened for business.

The building is owned by the VUWSA Trust, and Trust chairman Alistair Shaw says his main concern is that the deck was in use even before it was completed.

“There is no railing (around the deck), which is why the Trust have deemed it unsafe,” says Shaw.

The deck will be cordoned off until Student Job Search complies with the District Plan and can ensure the safety of deck.
